Our Recipe for Happiness

It is the end of the semester for the kids. Watching everyone post pictures of their kids last day of school made me miss the states for the first time. I am sure those times will always be kind of hard, but we are finding our new normal here. The kids had a semester party...which was equivalent to an end of the year party in the states (at least that's what it felt like in my mind). Food, programs, clowns, balloons etc. The kids had a great time and it was a good substitute to transition us to this new Brazilian life style. I think we can get use to this. The kids played, we watched.

Every semester there is a big themed project. This semester the kids theme has been "Our Recipe for Happiness". Really focusing on the family and what makes each individual child happy. It has been fun to do homework with the kids and see what activities we do as a family that they truly love.

Before we left the states I had a very good friend recommend a book, The Power of Positive Parenting written by Dr. Glenn I. Latham. It is on my list of "to-reads". I love it so far. In combination with the kids "recipe for happiness" from school, I can see those positive experiences that are shaping them into their little selves. I pray I can create more positive than negative experiences for each of them to develop into the best self they can be. It is my responsibility. Building the good and weeding out the negative. There is hope in humanity when there is genuine goodness, instead of negative attacks. Makes sense, right?

Connor's good friend, Arthur, they are inseparable at school...so I hear. Wherever Connor goes Arthur follows...wherever Arthur goes Connor follows.

Our little shy bug. I think her tongue was out her whole performance.
