Festa Junina

Festa Junina is large in Northeastern Brazil but it is celebrated all around Brazil. Schools, Churches, housing and apartment condominiums all have their own little parties to celebrate. Saturday our ward celebrated. The party takes place in June. It is known to celebrate rural life and feature typical clothing, food, and dance (a lot of square dancing). The dancing features a mock wedding whose bride and groom are the central attraction of the dancing. Men dress up as farm boys with large straw hats and women wear pigtails, freckles, painted gap teeth and red-checkered dresses, all in a loving tribute to the origins of Brazilian country music, and of themselves.

The food was great and the company was even better. The kids had such a good time, they can't stop talking about "the party".
